Easter in BletchleyPark
Family Fun Wednesdays will be held on 4th and 11th of April, providing activities for children aged four and above. For the first time, a children’s cinema club will be included. On Easter Monday (April 9th) there will be an Easter Egg trail round the Park, with lots of prizes. In the Toy Museum there will be a Hunt the Chick trail.
Roadworks
You will no doubt have seen that the long awaited alterations are being made at the junction of Saxon Way and Watling Street. We have been told that work will soon begin to construct a single roundabout, instead of the double one, at the junction of Sherwood Drive and Buckingham Road. Hopefully these changes will improve the traffic flow. A pedestrian crossing is shortly to be constructed close to Milton Keynes College in Sherwood Drive.
Parking Restrictions
In recent months parking restrictions have been introduced in parts of West Bletchley, including the Church Green area. We hope that the time limits in the access road to St Mary’s Church and Elmers Park will prevent commuters and students parking there all day and will make access easier for residents and the church congregation. Access should also be improved for the residents of Downing Close and Girton Way.
Planning Applications and Development
The White Hart Public House
West Bletchley Council and hundreds of local residents opposed the application to build a rehabilitation centre for patients with serious mental problems on the site of the derelict public house. Objections were raised over the suitability of such a site, and the effects it would have in a residential area. BPARA was asked to support the campaign and objected that the site was unsuitable, being too small for the patients to have adequate facilities for exercise and recreation. However, Milton Keynes Council’s Development Control Committee thought otherwise and passed the application.
Bungalow for Children with Severe Learning Difficulties at the rear of 73-89 Whalley Drive, adjacent to the Parkside Medical Centre
The Development Control Committee also ignored the concerns raised by the Parkside Medical Centre and BPARA at the narrowness of the access to the Centre and to the proposed development. There will certainly be problems with lorries etc., during the construction period. The site has already been cleared.
The South East Corner of Bletchley Park
So far no application has been submitted.
Former Canteen Buildings, Wilton Avenue
The appeal by developers against rejection of their application is still in progress, although we understand that a group is interested in purchasing the land and preserving the building.
Contacting Thames Valley Police
TVP has recently introduced a new contact number for non-emergency telephone calls – 101.
The 999 number should only be used for serious emergencies.
Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
The Association will be planting a tree in Bletchley Park – more information later.
West Bletchley Council is arranging two days of celebrations, including the Carnival, on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June.
