Congratulations to Brenda Hart, Bletchley Shed, Bletchley Lions and other supporters who spend many hours working in the Community Sensory Garden on Church Green – the Garden has been awarded a National Certificate of Distinction by Britain in Bloom judges!
As previously reported, the Community Sensory Garden on Church Green was judged for Britain in Bloom under the category “It’s your Neighbourhood” on 28 June.
The judges stated that “this entry continues to be an excellent example of volunteers, clearing a neglected, overgrown area and creating a beautiful sensory garden, in co-operation with other organisations, which is enjoyed by everyone in the community benefitting their wellbeing.”
The judges noted the following areas of achievement:
The building of the new water harvesting station with three linked water butts by Bletchley Shed, plus the building of compost bins from pallets; moving bluebells to the woodland garden from where the new Poppy bed has been created and more bulb planting; adding ferns; the high level of maintenance to planted areas and structures; the diversity of planting; the totem pole decorated with painted stones, the art group’s painted boxes and resident’s painted birds to make a colourful and cheerful addition to the garden; excellent plant labelling, with pictures, to the herb and rose beds.
Brenda and her supporters are already working on new projects which include the installation of a sundial in the garden and continuing to develop the new commemorative Poppy Bed.
