All over the country, community groups and individuals have adopted their local station. It is all about local pride and seeing their station as an important part of the community. Often it is the station that lets down a community in ‘Tidy Town,’ ‘Britain in Bloom’ and similar competitions. Friends of Bletchley Station (‘FOBS’) saw an opportunity to make sure this would not apply to Bletchley station.
FOBS is a group of local enthusiasts, dedicated to keeping Bletchley Rail Station attractive and friendly for all its users. In 2022, FOBS adopted Bletchley Station with the aim of adding value to what is already there and help make the station more welcoming and attractive: a vital part of the local community!
Supported by local volunteers and West Bletchley Shed, Network Rail, London Northwestern Railway, Marston Vale Rail Transport Users Group, Milton Keynes Living Archives, both Bletchley Councils and BPARA, FOBS has been busy:
- Installation of Bee Friendly and other planters and plants.
- Maintenance of the Terry Silver Memorial flower bed close to the station entrance.
- Installation of poster boards with posters depicting the station, past and present, and artwork produced by local school children, plus an attractive mosaic.
FOBS were recently awarded the Community Champions plaque by London Northwestern Railway – the first LNR station to be awarded this, and this month they have celebrated three years of Station Adoption.
